Youth At Risk Research

This project is intended to assist the City of Brooks and other communities located in the County of Newell, with the development of activities to address the root causes of youth gang involvement and other youth criminal activity.
YOUTH

For the purposes of this research, youth are defined as individuals between the ages of 12 and 24.

STORIES

Other information that points to gang activity comes from informal conversations, including family stories.

CHALLENGE

The biggest challenge for this project is that there is no comprehensive data available in the City of Brooks and the County of Newell.

BLUEPRINT

The successful completion of this project may offer a blueprint for other smaller rural communities.

RESOURCES

Gang connections to drug trafficking, prostitution, and ultra-national racism often cannot be followed up on due to the lack of resources.

STRATEGIES

Data and strategies based on larger urban centers do not transfer well to smaller rural communities.
